Customer Review

I had the opportunity to Fujifilm Finepix F200, F80 and F300 to taste, but had impressed me the picture quality is not especially: dull colors in Provia / Standard, unnatural colors in Velvia / Vivid, with decreasing light sharp decline in image quality. As I felt clearly better off with the Canon S95, although here the focus speed was very slow and the camera between two images even by 10 seconds of rest needed (in RAW + JPG).

In the X10, it looks as though the Fujifilm photography enthusiasts really listened:
+ Compact camera with a very large sensor (2/3 "= 1 / 1.5" over 1 / 1.7 "with the S95 or LX-5 and 1 / 2.33" with the usual compact)
+ Very fast lens - with 2.8 in the telephoto range,
+ Switches for Blitzentriegelung (instead fummeliger button)
+ Manual zoom ring (direction of rotation as with Nikon / Canon DSLR opposite)
+ Optical Image Stabilizer (who otherwise only Nikon, Canon, Panasonic)

What is missing:
- The 24mm wide angle
- Pocketable (like the S95)
- Dedicated button for video
- GPS (who's needs - I use Eye-Fi SD card with Geotagging)
- Focus point indicator in the viewfinder

Strengthen
- STAND - immediately ready for use with short rotation on the lens ring when the Schnellstartmodusim menu is set. Within half a second, I have a photo shoot, including focus, unlike the S95 where this takes about 4 seconds. (Shortening the Akkuaufzeit through the Quick Start setting is I had not noticed).
- Auto focus - very fast and extremely precise slow with excellent facial recognition, the fastest I have seen in a compact camera to date and only a trace when my SLR. The S95 is focused around four times as long and at automatic / face recognition, I could not leave, so I put the AF at center me. In Fuji, it is sufficient to set VarioAF with face detection and the camera really focused as it should: It focuses the center focus area and then framing the shot when faces are in the frame, then they are automatically recognized and focused on this. Excellent for snapshots from the hip! For photos of speilenden children one notices the slight shutter lag but then: Required in the DSLR just the right moment, press the shutter button, you have the appropriate moment when X10 anticipate the fraction of a second, otherwise the head is already turned away.
- "Super Intelligent Flash" works just fine: the flash output is adjusted, there is no longer the typical over flashed compact camera snapshots. Only the white balance is slightly wrong, shifted slightly to the yellowish. When S95 Blitzen was (except fill-in flash in bright places) luck. In addition, when the S95 firing the flash with multiple pressing the flash button was extremely cumbersome.
Image quality - ideal for a compact camera. In direct comparison with the S95, the beautiful colors, significantly better dynamic, slightly better detail representation, less waste of resolution in the corners, almost no chromatic aberrations. ISO 800 is still very good, comparable to ISO 400 with the S95. With enough light and ISO 1600 is still acceptable.
Of course I'm aware that this is a compact camera with 2/3 "sensor. Therefore, I am surprised that in the photos I've taken with the Nikon D7000 + 16-85 VR 3.5-5.6 compared to the X10, X10 pictures were of the dynamics comparable (yes, in the HR mode!) And me the higher ISOs in the range 400 - 1600 in low light from the X10 liked better: not less, but more pleasing noise.
- EXR AUTO - the best automatic mode, which I have experienced in a compact camera. Reliable Camera selects the appropriate scene mode, the autofocus precision of sitting alone. So you can press the camera every layman in the hand, showing the release button, the rest is done reliably Camera.
- DISPLAY - very good, comparable to the outstanding display of the S95 (X10 slightly smaller at the same resolution), in the sun, the display of the X10 is more readable, with normal ambient light, the display of the S95 is slightly lighter.
VIDEO: works reliably, due to the CMOS sesor compared to the CCD sensor in the S95 almost no streaks when panning. At a closer look, slight compression artifacts around moving objects (but not really disturbing).

= FEATURES / TIPS =
- EXPOSURE: The Canon S95 exposed abundantly known, about 1/3 - 2/3 Blend levels above what more detail in the shadow areas brings, but the light areas washed out. In contrast, the X10 exposed rather scarce, thus the lighter areas retain their structure. Actually, this is the better access, since you can better lighten shadows in the image processing than vice versa. However, JPGs from the X10 see unedited from a little dark. I have therefore the exposure compensation are permanently on +1/3.
- ISO: Anyone familiar with the Finepix cameras with EXR sensor, the white to Fuji's special feature is that for each mode (PASM) can be made its own ISO setting. So you can change a short turn of the dial and the ISO. So I have the ISO 100 in P placed on good lighting conditions. On A ISO AUTO800 is set with wide open aperture for low light conditions. Under the S ISO1600 and timing 1 / 125s for fast movements. All other settings such as film simulation, noise reduction, color saturation can be adjusted at the same time for all modes.
FILM SIMULATION / Saturation: While Velvia makes incredibly vibrant colors, but close to the limit for artificial and also at the expense of drawing in the shade areas. Definitely not for portraits. Possibly for landscape, ideal for illuminated advertising or still life with bright colors. For bright colors in everyday use Astia is the better compromise is best to let Provia / Standard are increased and for richer colors set to "color" to "high". There is the Film Simulation image series to practice. Access via the button "Drive".
Sharpness: Default is rather blurred contours, for Portaits certainly good, but I prefer crisp pictures and have the sharpness set to 'hard'. Halos I have thus not been established.
NOISE REDUCTION: set to lowest setting you can see a little more noise, but this looks very natural - very similar Klei picture film with a high ISO. Especially nice for grainy black and white photographs.
- Super macro shooting best succeed in A (Blendvorwahl-) mode with Aperture 5.6 to 8.0; including depth of field is too narrow, about taking diffraktionsbedingt sharpness from. (Focal length must be set to 28 mandatory.)
RAW - is possible, but there is probably (except the supplied - supposedly very bad) is currently not a program that can process the images. I tried it with Aperture on the Mac, do not go. You can develop the RAWs into the camera, but very, very awkward. You can press the RAW button before recording, then the following image in JPG + RAW is taken, you can also adjust the settings in RAW + JPG, then causes the RAW button, that the next image is taken only as a JPG.
Rendering - who photographed much must sort out a lot. I like to do in the camera. There is in playback mode, the great function 'Delete - image': if you select this, you can zap through the photos and delete useless record the videos with a simple press of the Menu / OK button - faster as it gets, unfortunately, works in this is not the magnification mode. Another great idea: during image playback, you can press the rear dial and gets the maximum magnification on the focus point. You can jump to photo Vergrößerugs view via a rotary to the underlying wheel of photo.
- OBJEKTIVDECDKEL - feels good, but is rather fiddly. The X10 has a filter thread of 40.3mm, supposedly a lens cap in the format 40.5mm fit (there are here at Amazon). I have a dehydrator 40.5 UV filter Slim ordered as a lens protector on Amazon. Can be about halfway to tighten and then sits firmly. Contributes on only slightly and makes the camera ready even faster. There is no vignetting noticeable.
Hold DISP button long = sleep mode; No sounds, no shutter sound, no flash, no focus assist light. One can really do so discretely photos.
FN button next to Trigger: short press for the quick configuration of the assigned function. Press and hold, and you can quickly change the function.
RANGE / noise / HIGH ISO: a Vorrezensent has complained that the X10 in the ISO Auto Selector very fast high ISO values. I suspect that the momentum is set to Auto here. You have to know that the EXR sensor has two different ways, the dynamic range of zoom: 1) at reduced resolution (6MP - whether be in EXR DR or less in PASM modes at preset image size M) at the same time two differently exposed images recorded and offset against each other. The ISO remains untouched. Disadvantage: you receive a picture with only 6MP. 2. Just as it make) all other manufacturers: it is an underexposed picture taken, so that in the light areas remains still drawing. The dark areas are brightened by increasing the ISO. In this method, an image with more noise is produced.

= = GIMMICKS
- SWEEP PANORAMA - works perfectly.
- PRO LOW-LIGHT MODE - works very well, the camera captures in rapid sequence images on 4 and charged them accurately - even if you blurred, so in low light conditions a low-noise image is created (even if only in 6MP)

= = CONCLUSIONS
finally a compact jackentaschen-, though not his pockets-compatible digital camera with a fast autofocus so that you children can take pictures with it quite well and great picture quality. In addition, the only way I know compact camera with a really useful Full Auto mode (EXR Auto). Highly recommended !!!

The only areas in which I would have a DSLR would prefer X10:
- With the flash indoors - here I can swing on the DSLR the reflector to the ceiling and have a nice, soft, natural lighting effects without shadows;
- Portaits with very shallow depth of field - nothing beats the 50mm 1.4 to DX at 1.8 - 2.8 and focal point to the pupil)
- Wide-angle shots - I love the 10-24 and the effects that can be achieved with it, such as near objects can act exaggerated or landscapes that unfold a special pull.

ACCESSORIES
- SCREEN PROTECTOR: Vikuity DQC160: can be attached very easily, is actually invisible. In no event shall Vikuity ARMR200, this reduces the resolution of the display and makes the view grobpixelig.
- UV filter as lens protection: Dörr DHG UV Filter 40.5mm - can screw it only halfway, but then also sits firmly; no vignetting.
- Camera bag: my choice for fixing at belt is the Kata KT DP-415, the X10 fits very well into it when cutting out the separation compartment. Unfortunately only a zipper, Velcro and not as I prefer, but you get used to it.
Alternatively, the Lowepro Rezo 60, extremely low (12), super quality, more storage space, but this much more voluminous.
The Kata DP-408 and DP-410-V are definitely too small.
As the bag interesting Blackrapid Snapr 35 (the Snapr 20 is too small); is actually a little big, the X10 sits a bit loose in the bag.
Very nice also the Crumpler Cupcake 1500th
