- Lightweight and small when folded.
- Transparent body which does not mask the card once raised above the compass. More convenient for my taste that drawer models.
- Scale in cm practice, graduated over the length of the unfolded compass (or 13 cm) which facilitates the measurements or path a direction on the map. Can also be used to rule.
- Mirror and notch to aim. The mirror is legible and can also serve as a mirror ....
- Needle markers and luminescent outline of the crown.
- Few moving parts, thereby limiting the problems of wear, and metal hinge. Although it is far from shockproof, the plastic part that folds protects the capsule scratches.
- Very pleasant to use.
Some less:
- I do not like the two molded features on top that are not even aligned with the direction of North, much less the "F" placed in the capsule that stray reading.
- No permanent correction of the declination, calculate the change each time.
- No 1/25000 scale.
- The inclinometer is a simple scale of angles printed on the back of the compass for a very rough estimate of a slope.
- The closure system abuts the strap, slightly offset hole would have avoided this.
- Strong in normal use, but be careful to shocks or crushing in a bag (that said, a precision instrument must be treated with minimal respect).
Finally, a great, accurate equipment, with excellent price / quality ratio. The model DS 50 is a bit more comprehensive (declination correction, 1/25000 scale ...), at double the price. Good compass for small budget or excellent backup.
