It took me time to adapt to rough me at this writing. A writing that sticks to most of the Irish countryside after subjected to hardness. Dilly always lived there except for a few months. A period during which she wanted to try his luck in the United States. The hope of a successful life there took water and she returned home. Soon after, she married and stored in the closet all his dreams. I was excited to read this novel. The mother-daughter relationships, women's lives in Ireland: all themes that I like and that are the focus of this novel. If the beginning of the book occurred to me clear, narrative multiplication left me on the low side. The mutual feelings of Dilly and Eleanora are constantly hidden by the shield of modesty, the unspoken and misunderstanding relation.Entre mark their letters written by her daughter Dilly (posted or not) the memories of Dilly, the Eleanora newspaper, I have advanced in the dark and I lost (if not lost!).
There are some beautiful passages but they are drowned in lengths that were right the lack of enthusiasm that I had. Too bad ...
