Due to the reviews given here, I decided to buy this drive. The optics are very good indeed, the housing is high-quality. While the hard drive is fanless, but sooooo quiet as you were describing here is not, alas! Especially in the start-up mode can be heard very clear and disturbing noises. If there is no access to the hard drive, the hard drive is a bit quieter, but even slightly heard! That might, in an environment where other sources of noise are present noticed a little less, but in my own environment I would have wanted but a little quieter.
Nevertheless, I would recommend this disk because it fits very well visually for Mac.
