My situation: laptop with Win7 via WLAN 100Mbit 2,4Ghz to Fritzbox 7390, behind a Netgear Switch 1000s at the switch connected the NAS drive and a WDTV Live box.
Connection: cable ran and software installed. The Nas in RAID1 configuration, thus me is 1TB available.
So far no problems!
The volume: unit is in TV near the living room. The unit is not the slightest! when there is no TV, radio etc running it is warzunehmen quietly. micht it does not bother!
Speed: Here you have to consider each component laptop, switch, router, etc. (the weakest victorious) to the laptop which, according to Windows, a transmission rate at "WLAN" from 130MBit offers, all other Gigabit So 1000MBit
For WLAN to reach a transfer rate of approximately 8MB (send and receive). This is a value with which I have also counted!
I tested also the Gigabit LAN port of the laptop! So are thus all connected components of equal value.
Here comes a transfer rate of about 25MB (send and receive). here I had hoped for a little more !!! Think if the NAS is connected directly to the Fritz box and would lauffen in RAID0, higher values should be obtained.
Software and equipment: The web interface is not very fast, here you have "felt" very long load times. no comparison to the Fritz box surface which works much faster!
the surface I find a bit confusing and unstructured. after a little practice, but you'll find yourself more or less cope. an example: creating folders; attributes for the folder and approvals for users and groups are on one side, as well as the possibility of the folder using Windows, Apple FTP, SFTP and set up hard drive backups or represent. but unlock the ability to folder for the Web Interface, so that you reach these from outside the internal network is on a different page!
About DYNDNS I've set up a remote access. Everything here works very well, the web interface is simple and well structured.
About Positive I can only say in general the device makes almost everything it should! RAID1 runs and the speed is OK. Remote access from external to the data via the web interface works very well!
Negative is much more noticed.
- The setter / setting surface As mentioned not just well-structured and clear.
- The Auto ON / OFF function funktionier only if all connected to the NAS on the network / connected units Buffalo NAS Navigator install. Thus, if the unit is in Auto Off mode, you get it only awakened when the software is installed. Unless so bad but how can my WDTV Live BOX raise NAS drive ?! Therefore, I need to use the NAS mode in the permanent ON.
-The Unit has a function Email benachritungen on the device status fans, memory, etc to ship. extent quite good but unfortunately this does not work even though all the data are entered correctly with me. in some forums will discuss this issue. the device supporting probably no smtp authentication although this is set. if someone has hinbekommen it would be great if he would write to me!
Conclusion:
If the device is a little practice and try needed because not everything seems self-explanatory, and logical.
But I am satisfied so far with the device.
The "negative" at gennanten points auto on / off, slow interface, and email alerts provide point deduction!
Other NAS devices in this price range have probably similar or other problems.
