To put it straight to the point: This book bought not for nothing that in a short time more than one million people. It is certainly not world literature, but a very attractive, and even touching story of two outsiders who find each other. An ancient motif so. And in addition: The ill-fated find their common happiness. A modern fairy tale, then, but one thing that has really happened. James Bowen says he's in his book completely sincere and wants to believe him. His descriptions appear credible. The story is not cheesy, but remains completely on the ground of facts. Even though a little bit would have been a fib here and there, it's at least very successful. Artistic freedom must be allowed. I am not a lover of cats still homeless (rather the opposite), although the book to me really liked, and I read it within a few days twice, I can say only a few books. There are mainly two things that make the book for me as worth reading: First, it has soul. This is something that is hardly to be found in today's literature, like many works of modern authors have also acclaimed as pretentious and stylistically. Second, the book is a masterful lesson on the human soul. Understandable, since someone like Bowen, who has lived more than 10 years of his life on the road and do not undergo all abysses of human existence, probably has more knowledge of human nature than most. People who can tell of such extreme peak experiences, earn ipso facto, to be listened to. The book has a lot of very successful scenes, like the one with the best, as Bowen desperately looking for his cat and eventually finds him again in a Nobel Boutique. Brilliant says. Last but not least the book reminds me of the famous film "Bicycle Thieves" - again attempted a "poor devil" desperate, despite all the odds to build a small existence. Despite all the ugly things that there is to report, the book is by no means ugly, but pure reading pleasure. The style is casual and funny enough to not to let the book be for drama. No page long lament about the evil society. The irony that -if shook again and again - confidence and the confession of their own mistakes the author sympathetic. One would like to wish him well. That's for people like me who disdainfully past rush at each homeless, quite amazing. Who can speak English, should read the book necessarily in English, it can only lose by the translation.
