First Impression:
Hardware is Top. Motorola has not saved here. Many metal elements, a screen made of Gorilla Glass, Akudeckel of metal and a soft-touch surface have been installed, covered. So all very valuable. By the elected course materials is the weight of ca 169g not exactly small. Definitely not right for women just a haptic properly valent Industrial Phone for men.
The hardware keyboard is initially gewöhnnungsbedürftig because due to the flat design (the Milestone is the thinnest QWERTY slider on the market) can be the key sensing not so good. But I can assure that after a short period, the tap also blind is possible and definitely worth more compared to a software keyboard provides.
The processor ARM Cortex A8 from Texas Instruments coupled with the PowerVX GPU also provides for future games a potent foundation (same graphics as the iPhone 3GS)
First start:
Was delivered to the stone with Android 2.0. After starting one falls first on the brilliant 3.7-inch display with 854x480. After HTC Hero and NEM Ipod Touch, each with a resolution of 480x320 Beginning the first wow factor.
At the start of the first applications is a delight, the speed, all programs open in fractions of a second and are available immediately. The home screen can be personalized with widgets nice (Facebook, photo frames, clocks, News, Weather, etc.). In 2.0 the homescreen has wiggled, but I did get over kontne because I could fix it on the HTC Hero with an update of them ran out, as then.
Software:
Android has a very good integration with Google services. Who has no qualms to share its data with Google in part is here a package get a lot of comfort. One can save his contacts in Google Contacts, and directly synchronize the mobile exchange to a new Android phone, for example, the old data again. Google Maps is up to date and offers many features. It is also very well connected with Social Networks (photos and news Upload to Picasa, Facebook, Twitter, Buzz). Facebook contacts Unfortunately for Droid not yet fully integrated in comparison, but what is to come with the next update.
The Android Market is next to the iPhone AppStore, the second biggest official download portal for smartphone apps. there are currently over 20,000 apps available, many for free and some paid (here is to mention that you currently have can only pay through Google Checkout with credit card, which is not great for the German market, of course).
Overall, one can say that Android for the short development time already pretty good runs, but still belongs to the Kategoerie "tinkering". If you're looking just play only a Phone for it should pick up the apple perhaps you prefer. Who wants to be little beschäöftigen with his system and the freedoms enjoys his phone can personalize themselves with Android very nice romp.
The update:
Many have scolded how bad Motorola supportet their phones, but I have to because very disagree. You have to let me think the phone came mid Novemver here on the market, the end of November was a good availability guaranteed. This means Motorola has now early February so not by 2 months later submitted an update that has solved a lot of problems and brought some features. The update for the American version was a month earlier there, but you should bear in mind that the Europe update some features more features (eg equalizer, Coverflo, improve the multitouch). I know some people had not imagine how that looks ne software. I can tell the whole is very complex and from the first test version of an update to maturity are just one of a lot of work and a lot of testing announced. Manufacturers such as HTC or Samsung cucumbers still around with Andoird 1.5 or 1.6 and promise updates on 2.x for months. In this respect I can only say who complains there are simply unaware of the complexity of modern electronic devices and would probably be better off with the old barren 0815 Phones.
The update to 2.0.1 has now been solved and the most criticized issues here:
-No Echo more when telephoned
-Kameraautofokusbug Is resolved
-Marketproblem Were Protectet not find the apps on the free movement of devices
In addition, the fluidity of the operation has been improved somewhat. The homescreen is no longer so jerky scrolling through lists is more supple. Although still far from completely liquid, but it can be operated very comfortable already.
Before I lose myself in Smalltalk:
The Milestone is a very nice-quality phone for power users interested in technology to who want to do something with your Phone and freedoms fully enjoy. It has NEN beautiful AppMarket with a lot of software and offers a lot of potential for the future. Android is growing faster than any other smartphone OS on the market. After just 1.5 years there has been scarce Google managed to obtain the major providers and offer similar functionality. Now go to the fine-tuning, it shows on Eyecandy on slowly since version 2.1 focus is (3d gallery, something modern Musikapp etc., moving wallpaper, etc.).
