I was spoiled for choice between the different models. The reference model difference for me directly, because different test portals advised against it. So I opted for the MSI card.
Installation is incredibly simple, as with all other PCI Express cards. As chic highlight is on the side of the MSI logo that lights up during operation in white. I do not like huge Leuchreklame or even a light organ in my computer. This is exactly the right dimensions and looks really great.
My test environment:
CPU: Intel Quad Core i7-3820
RAM: 12GB
HDD: SSD Crucial CT240M500SSD1
Noise: You have the part all right demand a performance that starts in the first place. But even then the fans are only very diffusely heard that do not interfere in my opinion. From Spulenfiepen that is constantly criticized, I can not tell. Even if the fan in my opinion is go down to hear nothing of this phenomenon.
Power: Of this there is really full and juicy.
Test games: BF4 and Crysis 3
The games I've tested in HD and WQHD. Although I only did not want to believe that the very attractive graphics Crysis can be played smoothly in WQHD, I was disabused. Nowhere I have even vaguely had the feeling that the card comes to their limits. Unfortunately I can not tell you what it looks like when played in 4k. But I can not imagine that the power is still enough for me. But I let myself also here gladly again disabuse. In single-monitor mode to WQHD this part is not to kill anyway. That's why I an absolute buy recommendation.
Update 10/02/2015
I am referring to the scandal concerning message. 0.5 GB of lower graphics memory. Certainly, the fraud in any way to the customer, but it is such that at the time the 980 is not capable graphics heavy games, such as BF4, Far Cry 4 etc to play smoothly in 4K at high details. However, the 980 has not the division of the graphics memory. Personally, I think these huge waves hitting the message plated for a bit. ATI has now of course a battle argument for the next row of your card. But let's be honest. I got stuck here a card in the computer, by the performance, power consumption, etc. for such a price (I paid 350, -) can not be beat at the moment. And I bet that would be no one noticed when the message would be lost.
Time by the way. I have to cut here and there with Premiere Pro CS6 video. You have to manually unlock the card with the Cuda hack. The performance, however, is great. My CPU has nothing to do, when I render, while the GTX970 46Grad not exceed, so that not even start the fan. Before I had this card, I had to create an ear protection, since the CPU ran at full load the fan and had to bang out power accordingly. Thus, even for video editing an absolute buy recommendation.
