Benefits:
+ Sensational angle. 12mm is much wider than 16mm, almost overwhelming (not to say pompous). Of course, the lens must be carefully aligned, so that the lines in the image not too wild rush (unless this is intentional).
+ Convincing construction quality. In my eyes, the lens looks better than the Canon mentioned (matter of taste) and also touches her better. The permanently installed lens hood makes a very robust impression.
+ Autofocus performance. The lens reacts promptly to reports of the AFS, focused almost inaudible and permitted at any time interventions on the focus ring. No better way to solve the barely.
Neutral:
o light intensity. A value of 4.5-5.6 is anything but exhilarating. As the design would increase unreasonable for more, I see it but not to monierenden disadvantage.
o filter size and deployment. A filter can be fixed only on the outer front element, so that the full-frame camera with filter element can not be zoomed to full wide-angle (unless you work with supervisor or vorgehaltenem sheet filter). In practice, however, this is likely to be get over in most situations.
o Focus in the image center. A good overall performance, which can be increased easily to a professional level thanks to Lightroom and Photoshop.
Disadvantages:
- Only a real, of me but unfortunately for returning the lens moving: The sharpness drop in the margin. Here the spirits are divorced on Sigma: Who needs the 12 mm at any price, in any case has little alternative and could be happy with the performance even. That would also I accepted, I know about the great challenge of the extreme focal length range. Unfortunately, I found the edge sharpness but also in the range of 16mm to 20mm even dimmed far from satisfactory. Maybe Sigma should have expected better since a fixed focal length, which does not make so many compromises necessary.
In conclusion, it must be noted that it is unlikely to become even better in this price range on full frame. I'm going down with a heavy heart that now used for business purposes Canon privately and to 4mm downward refrain (and also pay 500 more). If you are more tolerant at the edge blur when I, you should still give the Sigma a chance.
