DESIGN:

As the ORT2300 arrived and was of course immediately unpacked, my wife said spontaneously: but looking good! She's right, the design also think I really succeeded, and I think, you need not be a pronounced retro Fan to derive pleasure.
The clock is also from further away yet easy to read, the display of a good size, the wire antenna can be elegant somewhere "hidden". By design embossed on / off and volume knob and the otherwise elegant disappearing in the top panel buttons the other Philips avoids any appearance of confusing "Knöpfchen desert".
OPERATION:

Here I have to be critical: so beautiful inconspicuously disappear the controls of the top in the housing, so inconvenient to use them. There are two large buttons, each having four pressure points on the four sides. This carries the risk-free possible to catch the wrong function, especially the pressure points feel rather spongy. The service is not really intuitive, I needed preset radio stations already have a look in the manual. Unfortunately, very common features such as choice of station program position only over several operating steps are available, and does not respond fast enough to the straight current function after a few seconds is simply activated or the device jumps from the current selection mode back out.
Here I would have very much wanted to be able to select the particular program places with individual buttons for each transmitter by a single pressure. Nice but that a simple pressure on the volume knob, the last station starts automatically, at least the "favorite channels" so one has immediately at hand (and that was quite essential for me).
Even the points eg the short-term timer for the kitchen is quite expensive compared to other kitchen alarm clocks, and a second-exact expiration time need in the kitchen no one.
Better managed turn the clock radio operation, here there is a nice big "Snooze" button and two additional buttons to choose two timers (weekend, week, day, time).
All functions can be operated from a Handyapp, I've tried this, works well, but is not my thing, especially since I, the phone often not have in our coverage of the space where the radio is.
FUNCTIONALITY

For my use, most importantly the DAB Radio works fine and very stable. The FM radio also included I find really necessary ...
Other potential sources are an external player device, and in particular the possibility of linking a mobile device (tablet or phone) via Bluetooth. This works for me very easily and smoothly, in this way you can sometimes hear his available on mobile favorite disc - and load the phone through the USB port also. Toll also the possibility to redirect any sound of the phones on the Philips, so you extend the functions in one fell swoop to Internet radio and streaming services!
The clock radio features I have briefly described above, which leaves me no custom open, yet the ORT comes for me in the bedroom use not in question: the display is indeed dimmable, but only in three stages, the me all clearly too bright for a radio alarm clock would. To that we the Bluetooth lamp that concerns over again, as long as a once connected mobile phone is within range. However, I must say that I far as what light in the bedroom am very sensitive and prefer clock like that show the time briefly illuminated only by pressing a button. Many others have here certainly no problem. I use the "kitchen timer" would be just too much trouble, can my existing Küchenradio much easier.
SOUND

Compared to other known to me "compact radio" Philips sounds really good, especially it does not bother with such devices sometimes tinny tweeters own sound. The depths are clearly emphasized, a real bass is certainly not to be expected from devices of this size. In sum, I find the sound considering the device class and well balanced, with rather very slight tendency to "Dull". Unfortunately, a tone control is lacking, friends of transmitters with many voice contributions would perhaps wish something more pronounced highs, but the really fine points, in total the sound for me but certainly fits.
CONCLUSION:
----------
Clearly, a device that offers extensive facilities for its price, with strengths in design, sound and connectivity. There would be potential for the operating concept (although I've seen worse here). As deposits may not a great device, as long as you respect not very sensitive. Brightness control is.
Lay particularly fond of is the device safely users who want to stream from the mobile device, but at the same time looking for a decent stand-alone functionality with radio and / or alarm.
