Full anticipate I must say that I like to listen to music in good quality, but I definitely do not classifies as Audiophile. Music must sound easy just good as that is achieved, I do not care. Also that it can create a larger price breakdown, is clear.
After I read a lot of really good and very good reviews about the Sonos system, I had decided a system of two Play: to buy 5 and a sub. To listen, since except in noisy electronics markets was nowhere the opportunity as a system at rest, my granted by Sonos 100-day return policy was just right. I have therefore ordered directly from Sonos.
The delivery was prompt, the installation takes only a few minutes, that's all done perfectly. The Android or PC software is hassle free and mE powerful. It was absolutely no problem to access both local music also located on the network. The integration of streaming services is good.
My experiences are ambivalent to the sound:
A single Play: 5 sounds "pretty" well. This is especially true when one considers the quite small volume. "Pretty" because in my opinion the centers are clearly underrepresented. With the bass you have to watch something, the Play: 5 is here indeed quite good, but can not perform miracles. Especially a placement against a wall, on a shelf or in a corner of the room leads to booming bass. Here you can also take countermeasures on the equalizer, or better position the speakers a little more freely.
The sub is awesome. It extends the frequency range very nicely towards deep bass. With good recordings a fear and worry can be ... Really very impressive.
The system of two Play: 5 and the sub as a stereo pair, however, is disappointing. Yes, it sounds very good in principle, but it has not been possible for me to locate voices and instruments. Either everything comes directly from the speakers or sometimes coarse and undifferentiated from a very large space between the speakers. Who now thinks, but the sound must still come from the speakers: Yes, but music is for the most part not only from the sources directly "left" and "right". The job of a stereo system is to be able to generate reasonable and the "in-between". From a hi-Lore I can explain to me that the sound itself must break away from the speakers.
For comparison, the same lossless compressed files are played on a classic middle-class hi-fi system. Behold: when you close your eyes, you mean before the stage to stand, every voice and every instrument is perfectly locatable. A very similar result was found when listening to a 30 years old Beyer headphones (then with the known headphones effect)
Conclusion: Well thought, well realized, as a multi-room system with great individual speakers, subwoofer fantastic, everything sounds good in principle. The lack of ability to locate for me is an absolute knock-out criterion. Good sounding music (see above) means for me that I can close your eyes and have the impression to have a stage or a studio in front of me. This is exactly what the described Sonos system from 2 pieces play: as a stereo pair plus Sub mE just not 5. Therefore I have taken the 100-day return guarantee of Sonos to complete.
But because I find the concept that great, I have a play to me: 1 of purchases for the office ...
