Evaluation criteria whether an improvement could be achieved with the polishing, among others served a lateral. View from very acute angle on the disc, with light source from above. Result before polishing -> clearly visible sliding tracks.
With the following equipment's down to business:
- Sonax Glass Polish
- TecTake rotary polisher in 1600, multi-speed control
- Connex Com 191123 Sanding pad, 123mm
- Sonax 04933000 felt pad 127
Before grinding I have completely masked by wipers, window seals and surrounding plastic and paint not to dirty areas. About bonnet and roof old blankets / linen cloths were laid. The windscreen has been previously cleaned thoroughly understood.
Overall, I gained three polishing runs carried out, with a total. Nearly two hours total time.
This corresponds to the recommended procedure? Certainly not. Who reads more can save the first two runs itself may .....
1. Pass
Settings: felt pad moistened drips to almost polisher at Level 2 (Display: 10), fogged windshield using pump sprayer.
Implementation: horizontal and vertical, overlapping paths, each with 5-6 reps at moderate pressure (man, 85kg, moderately sporty). Every two to three lanes new polishing paste on the felt pad (each 4-5 pea-sized drops always).
Result: No improvement -> still clearly visible sliding tracks.
That was not supposed to be (among other things by experience reports in div. Forums and even a positive ADAC test).
So again from the beginning.
2. Pass
Settings: As under 1, but now with a little less water and more pressure.
Result: Slight improvement, -> in some places less visible sliding tracks.
The promised now more so one more try.
3. Pass
Settings: felt pad only from and moisturizes too light shine on stage 3 (Display: 14), windshield using pump sprayer only minimal fogged.
Implementation: horizontal, overlapping paths, each with 8-10 repetitions with heavy pressure. Every one to two lanes new polishing paste on the felt pad (each 4-5 pea-sized drops always).
Result: Strong improvement -> approximately 70% of the disc almost no visible sliding tracks more. Only where previously were the worst scratches, small fields with easily visible sliding tracks are still visible.
Which I move later to the body, that day was not enough to force ....
My experience and my impression when dealing with the polishing paste and polishing machine:
If the polisher "bucks", although it was often not yet polished on the same spot - too dry> felt pad / windshield - dusting> some water.
If the polisher "bucks" after was nice more polished on the same spot, while the felt pad is not too dry -> I got the impression that this occurs at increasingly smooth expectant windshield and this was an indicator that even in these areas a good result was obtained.
At the beginning of the action "sounds / feels" you also a very slightly abrasive effect, which decreases with increasing polishing.
Overall, I for all three runs consumes about half of the polishing paste.
Conclusion:
Before the action I had taken on a certain stretch of road with many street lights photos og problem "vertical light bars".
After the action I have repeated this -> where the fine scratches were polished away, no vertical light strips could be seen over the entire disc.
The masking / covering made sense. So after grinding cleanup work on the car were not necessary, at least for the first two runs, the polishing paste splashed namely like to four or five meters wide around ....
Inexperienced are more cautious (see above), but better than tinkering something with brute force wreak havoc at the beginning.
Who knows the ropes and has enough power can then achieve very good results.
My expectations were actually that the result brings only a mitigation of the problem. In fact, my needs were met but perfectly (although I must again ran), the polishing paste gets from me therefore 5 Stars.
