Basically, I can only confirm once the other reviews, in which the relatively cheap-looking casing of the flash is criticized. On the X-E2 This looks like a toy was, at that time but probably not intended for use on a XE and X-Pro.
Desirable would certainly be a metal base and was also the catch by bike is already long out of date. Considering the price of around € 135 euros on Amazon, however, I would also not interfere with further off, which I would consider 99 euros for reasonable.
Due to its zoom-head, a reasonable spreading disc and the guide number of 42 of the EF-42 is the EF-20 course vastly superior. The elevated position has a positive effect on the picture. Swiveling both horizontally and vertically, basically making him only once to improve on both models.
With the service I can at EF-42, however, does not really make friends! Canon, Nikon, Sigma and even Yongnuo I think from experience significantly more user-friendly.
A good illumination with my 35mm lens make both models. In Aperture 5.6, I see on 4 meter against the white ceiling flashed between the EF-20 and EF-42 no difference. Stopped down to f / 16, the higher guide number does naturally but clearly noticeable.
I decided finally for the EF-20, the compact size but looks much more balanced on a mirrorless system camera and also awakens the housing (light diffusion plate and battery excluded) a slightly higher quality impression.
Nevertheless, I think from the points mentioned in EF-42 only three stars to be appropriate and would like to see a revised (X) version soon coming to market.
A Look Across the bigger picture, one gets for example. Canon as part of the Cash Back Action for just 30-40 euros more the Speedlite 430EX II. Mag one now on a Fuji camera does not really bring anything, but should also serve as illustrative only, brings the foreign manufacturers a significantly higher quality product for its cameras to marginally higher price.
Addendum of 17 May 2014:
The existence, I have the Fujifilm EF-42 TTL Speedlight still gained me. Younger EF-20 I prefer though still, but in some situations I missed not being able to flash toward the ceiling and upright. If the EF-20 not only tilt but also swiveling, I would not have taken this step.
In my review, however this changes nothing. For the price I would still expect a little more.
