OPERATION:
Operation is despite the huge functionality amazingly simple and intuitive. The included PDF documentation is structured helpful and logical user interface attractive and clear. A little time of course you still have to invest in order to understand the system (especially since I'm not a network administrator;)). With us the DiskStation was certainly fully furnished one afternoon / evening and since it runs without muck.
However, we have until now only a fraction of the functionality of the application: the cloud or remote access, we use, for example, not yet..
BAYS / disk:
The Disk Station has 2 Bays, ie it can be installed 2 internal hard drives - with this device no hard drives are included.
As far as I am aware, this is in most other Synology NAS systems as well - it makes perfect sense so that the buyer can decide how much space you need.
A look at the (very detailed) compatibility list of Synology should but previously held: synology.de/support/hd.php?lang=deu
I have the following two hard drives ordered the same to me - and I can (for now) do not complain):
- Western Digital 3TB WD30EZRX internal hard drive (8.9 cm (3.5 inch), 5400 rpm, 2ms, 64MB cache, SATA III)
- Seagate ST3000DM001 internal hard drive 3TB (8.9 cm (3.5 inches), 7200RPM, 64MB cache, SATA III)
Both were immediately recognized by the DiskStation - all quite straightforward.
NOISE:
The noise levels certainly depends also on the installed hard disks - I hear from the DiskStation anyway nothing, although it is in the middle office.
Oh, and it also looks chic yet;)
For small office and home use you can make of this with my previous experience DiskStation nothing wrong.
