The grip pads are made of a relatively hard foam and therefore quite stiff the high thickness of the pad is also helping. In bars with the usual diameter of ~ 30mm, I was glad to have something bigger hands to still safe to pack.
I can very well imagine that the Griffpolster not give a 100% secure grip in normal owners of large hands in conjunction with the standard diameters of weights, tie rods, etc. ...
