I came through the preparation for a trip to Denmark on behalf of Struensee and have then more considered of historic interest the film. The script keeps evidently pretty much to the historical facts. One is drawn into the nightmarish situation of a country in which King Christian VII. (And, incidentally, his predecessor) was already psychologically ruined as a child deliberately from court and basically nothing more than a signatory of the reactionary policies of his Council. The young Caroline Mathilde comes as the wife of the king at the court and lived an unhappy marriage - until the king Struensee brings to the court. The affair between the Queen and the personal physician takes in the film less space than the title suggests. It accompanies the attempt to bring the Danish state in the modern era - with smallpox vaccination, eradication of torture and more - actions that Struensee can enforce as minister of the king. The reaction of the formerly powerful Council is not long in coming. The actors play oppressive good and the soundtrack does its own difficulties. We recommend!
