You have noticed the distortion of the image obtained with a GoPro? In the jargon this is called the fisheye effect, obtained with so-called fisheye objectives. If you do a search on Amazon, you will see, these goals are worth quite expensive, often around 1000 and it is still annoying for an effect that is used from time to time.
So when I came across the hero4 silver screen and built-in flash 300 for sale on Amazon, I thought 5min I was reading some tests and I told myself that it was worth trying.
I'm not sure a screen is much interest in a camera mounted on skis, a snowboard or a motorcycle helmet, but I do not how a photographer who takes pictures "normal" (non- sports) could go completely aiming for composing images.
Without this screen, or if I could add nearly 100 to the note to get one, the GoPro was not very interesting, so it has been instrumental in the purchase decision and I must say I do regret it at all.
Without being fantastic picture quality is far superior to what I expected, not only to well-lit compositions but also in low light with a tripod. The use is childish, transfer images to smartphones and tablet wifi is nice, there is an image correction profile for the Silver Hero4 in Lightroom and the presence of a Black Hero 4 profile in DXO OpticsPro leaves me thinking a silver profile should happen quickly.
In short, from a qualitative point of view, this is certainly not the best fisheye I could find but, anyway, rarely looking flawless image quality with a fish.
Especially for a small fee, I have both the fish, a point & shoot small enough to be constantly in my pocket, an extra battery, and why not, a waterproof action cam for the holidays.
All is not rosy that said, I do not even know how GoPro have forgotten to put a strap securing the device out of its box (!!!) in this regard, there are a lot of accessories to buy if you want to do anything and they are not given.
If the firmware is a little temperamental at times, especially when trying to change fashion and function quickly.
Finally GoPro has chosen to integrate its existing objectives camera format (M2), and we regret that they do not offer a wide range of interchangeable lenses without any disassembly; but finally to exploit all this should also be the little things that shoot in RAW you can dream but perfection is not of this world.
