I am passionate film fan and series and because I've always looked at my 22`` TFT Monitor via the PC I thought it would finally put on some of the time me a large flat screen TV. Said and done and after some research, I decided to Samung.
The following points were particularly important to me:
Network streaming (most of my films are on my computer, or on my external hard drive)
Samsung Apps (played rather a subordinate role, but interesting as a feature for the future for me)
Good picture in SD and HD (with the most important point)
Sound did not matter because I have connected a 2.1 system (via the 3.5 mm jack)
Energy saving in stand-by
Now for my experience, I have the TV now for 3 months and I am satisfied on the whole, but also identified a number of disturbing elements:
POSITIVE:
Connection and installation no problem, everything super easy and foolproof.
Power consumption is fine, he hardly draws current in stand-by mode.
4 HDMI inputs are useful, but all I need is definitely not (Currently a WD TV Live box and my computer via HDMI depends on the TV)
Connecting my external hard drive (NTFS format) worked right away without any problems and also the playing of movies / series / music worked perfectly.
The picture is on all channels (TV reception via antenna DBTV, HD video, SD video, 3D HD videos) truly outstanding. The television Santander köntnen sharpness down, but since you probably can not expect more from a regional DVBT. The picture at HD videos perfectly and did exactly as I imagined it with a TV in this price range. This applies to 720p as well as for full HD 1080p content mt. Since there are (almost) nothing to complain about (see "Clouding" at the negative points)
The apps I've used does not really extensively, but there is a wide choice. However, many (me) totally unknown Apps and many of them are "non-erasable" preinstalled. The whole Smart TV menu is easily and quickly call, with the "touch-screen remote control" it works really neat.
The two remotes are top. No complaints. You are working properly and are good (and especially not too bulky) in hand. There is in my opinion nothing worse than a 30cm remote (my father as one for his LG), but they should be good and lokcer in the hand, with large clear buttons. A matter of taste.
The 3-D glasses work well and are easy on the nose. One can so loose a 2.5 hour movie look without getting bruises.
NEGATIVE:
What bothers me most and mittwerweile with an external solution had to be resolved was the network streaming. This soon running properly and smoothly with smaller files. However, even with the (not supplied) Software Samsung ALL SHARE. And exactly this software or depending on (before installing the TV realized partly no network shares) is the "crux of the matter" at least for one user like me.
The software is simply un poignant a disaster. Crashes when you exit the program, about the "not finding" Shared Content (then magically appeared after a restart of the computer) to stuttering and crashes when playing the content. Completely incomprehensible to me how to ever bring something as stable version on the "market" (the software is free, after all). As I know more mature beta programs, which is not worthy of Samsung.
Of course, the users may not care which rarely, if ever, a video over the network stream, but as I have already mentioned in the introduction that's just my "daily bread" in media consumption. Too bad that Samsung is prepared here not better. Maybe the problems are solved but Aich with a simple update.
Personally, I am but now on an external media player switched (WD TV Live) and am very satisfied.
The second point is the right ägerliche Smart TV range of Samsung. Everything prepared pretty, colorful and relatively quickly accessible. I could (and did) not test all apps, the ones I've tried worked very well until perfectly (Putpat TV, max cathedrals, Zattoo). Only the Zattoo app crashed on me and see.
But the App Store from Samsung is so confusing and so obviously pervaded with a cooperation of max cathedrals and Video Hub that a really spit stays away.
Because I just can not my series and films about the (in my opinion) best streaming portal WATCH EVER seen but am dependent on either: a HDMI connection of my computer to the TV (with a 1.5m HDMI cable a real challenge ) or just one of the vendors were supporting by Samsung (there really is everything except Watch Ever: LOVEFiLM, max cathedrals, Video Hub, Videoload, Video City and, and, and ...).
As I said, of course I could just switch providers, but wieseo restricts me so massively my TV at this point? Watch Ever has the better for me offer and I was able to test the app on the TV of my father (an LG model 2012) and the superior surface (max cathedrals is really much too confusing, apart from the fact that for 70% of the content has to be paid more in addition to the 7.99 per month).
Really a pity that Samsung has not tried here to add a bit more market freedom but obviously entered into a cooperation with the other companies and therefore outside Ever Watch remains in front. All that can be fixed through a simple update of course, but unfortunately it does not look after the time ...
Another point is the menu of Samsung in network reproductions. This is especially bad for music playback of the case. One can not at the same time listen to music and browse through the other folders namely. No, then stops the music. How can Samsung be serious? It's certainly not the main function of the device to play music from an external hard drive, but I have a Smart TV (Smart = (Engl.) Clever) can this price range expect that it is a kind player has for such purposes to which the music Background to continue while I look at the pictures on my hard drive. Other solutions provide the well (see WD TV Live).
The TV does not react always liquid. Sure, here no quad-core is installed and the RAM is not prepared for complex tasks, but at least one could expect from Samsung that they get their OS smoothly and quickly up and running. This is in most cases also so, but not always. Here I would have a VLT less desired animated but for smoother OS.
The image is described in most cases perfectly, but it occurs every now and then the so-called. Clouding effect (see Wikipedia), but which does not really bother me. Here you can take countermeasures but simply by the backlight turns down something. Thus, the effect is almost gone. For that I would therefore be no deduction in the standings.
CONCLUSION:
In the large and whole, I am satisfied (especially with the "upgrade" by the WD TV) with the Samsung. Would pronounce even an unqualified recommendation to buy "only" TV shower and movies-of-DVD or Blue-Ray-gazers.
Aaaaaber: If you want to truly effective and worry-free use of the functions of the (so pompously announced) Smart TV has to adjust to the odd disappointment. The app assortment is simply immature and incomplete. Streaming via network performance to be deficient (is probably mainly due to the poor PC software).
I imagined after so many very positive judgments of the Internet significantly more straightforward performance, especially in the field of streaming. There is still some need for improvement exists and I implore Samung to become even more active here.
Otherwise this was definitely my last TV from Samsung. After all why do I have a network-capable television if I now but the WD Streambox need to play movies on my computer ?! Then I would have to purchase a cheaper device. This judgment is tough, but I have just noticed already how something really goes well and I expect it then also from a device in which I have invested 500 and that indeed the desired Fukntionen has on the datasheet also. This is I think not too much to ask.
You are welcome to give me feedback and if more questions are open, I can answer them to the best knowledge.
