Router: Wireless router ASUS RT-AC66U AC1300 / N900, 1300 / 450Mbps, Dual Band
Client Adapter: Wireless USB Adapter ASUS USB-AC53 AC900 / N300, 867/300 Mbps Dual Band
Priced both products at the current market (May 2013) are settled in the upper price segment. The router costs about 165 euros and the adapter further 60 euros. Thus it is a proud 220 euros. The question is to make the most if the high price expected. That's why I write this review with my little benchmarks and everyone can then itself form an opinion whether it is worth the money.
Features:
The router comes with a network cable. Otherwise, there is no special equipment, you do not need.
The client adapter comes with a USB Extension Cable which is but a mere 20cm long. However, the cable USB Station is long enough. The bracket for the screen can be left safely in the pack. My Samsung monitor is not even a cm wide and the thing does not fit there on it. But for that I have not even bought.
Installation:
Router just plug in the power, connect to the ASUS SSID and enter 192.168.1.1 in a browser. The credentials are admin // Admin and you are inside. A few clicks and you are done. Very easy and fast. The software looks good and everything I need for my needs is there. (Fixed DHCP addresses, port forwarding and QoS settings)
The client adapter it behaves similarly. Just to infect, CD in, install Driver and the fun is done. The utility software I have not installed, only the driver.
Benchmarking:
Here I would like to share some information. These measurements have emerged which depends directly on the router between my computers and the NAS:
1,
Router: Linksys 300 Mbit
Client Adapter: TP-Link 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz, one wall in between, 10 meters
Download from the NAS: I've never done.
Upload to NAS: 3-5 MB / s
2,
Router: ASUS RT-AC66U
Client Adapter: TP-Link 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz, one wall in between, 10 meters
Download from the NAS: 6-7 MB / s
Upload to NAS: 1-4 MB / s, therefore worse than with the old router (but is probably at the client adapter with the laptop because it went as fast as the download)
3,
Router: ASUS RT-AC66U
Client Adapter: Asus Zenbook UX31E 2.4Ghz, visual contact, 5 meters
Download from the NAS: 6-7 MB / s
Upload to NAS: 6-7 MB / s
4,
Router: ASUS RT-AC66U
Client Adapter: Google Nexus 10 Tablet 5Ghz
Streaming from NAS: I have no readings but it just feels faster when a video is opened. For a 10 Gb film he does not even need one second. Addendum: When I copy video from the NAS on my tablet (hence Download from NAS) I have about 3 MB / s.
5,
Router: ASUS RT-AC66U
Client Adapter: ASUS USB-AC53 5 Ghz, one wall in between, 10 meters
Download from the NAS: 19 MB / s = 152 Mbit
Upload to NAS: 15 MB / s = 120 Mbit !!! This is an increase of 200% -400% to my old setup.
Conclusion:
I am satisfied, the final setup for the Internet was enough but the network I was a bit too slow but I copy around a lot between my PC and the. 200% to 400% increase compared to my old setup is just Geil :)
