The base is well designed, very convenient. I fixed on a bar top (rods) to attach a mattebox. Beware if this is also your intention, there are three mounting holes in the plate (!) - 1 hole format 3/8 "image (not used in my case) - 1 1/4 size hole "picture (used) - 1 hole format 1/4 "non-picture (used) The last hole is tapped in a step closer, not compatible with 1/4 "image.
