For a long time I'm looking for a bag suitable replacement for my Canon SX1, which in my opinion so far represented the optimum combination digicam / camcorder. The argument 'but buy yourself a camcorder' draws not, I have in fact already: That currently probably best price-performance ratio in the Full HD range, the Panasonic HDC-SD66. One may believe it or not: Without going into all the criteria on which diverge in detail quite - the Canon SX1 makes overall sharper and more colorful video (1080p instead of 1080i) and the better the photos (of course) anyway. This does not devalue the camcorder, it is as such a very good solution, but not at all suitable for picture taking. In addition, he barely fits in favor of compactness like the SX1 in the pocket or shirt pocket.
Some time ago I bought the first compact camera with Full HD, the Sony HX5V, after I have the Panasonic TZ7 and TZ10 tried and sold again because for me unsatisfactory video quality (720p). Unfortunately, Sony was in spite of quite good HD video quality not a substitute for my camcorder because the sound just too tinny and not for music recordings dialogue is still usable.
A few days ago I did then, despite the poor judgment here, the Canon Ixus 1000 HS bought. And what can I say, it is there! The first impression as it was at the SX1: Fantastically sharp and colorful video and outstanding photos (photos in automatic mode even better than the SX1). The stereo sound is not quite as good as at SX1 and camcorders, but good enough and to worlds better than the Sony HX5V. After a few days of testing so my conclusion: Both Panasonic SD66 and Sony HX5V can be sold (the SX 1 is already gone), now misses the Ixus 1000 HS in your shirt pocket and off you go ...
A few more words about the pre-test. Surely everyone goes their own priorities to such a review approach, but I think the judgment with only two stars are in my opinion in any way the potential of this camera again. The negative points listed can, depending on how you look at it, just as well be positive points, or incorrect observed (eg 16: 9 pictures are of course possible - less wide, but more Tele - .mov format better quality and Handbarkeit on the PC - 10 min video limit for an individual sequence is true only in HD, you can in VGA mode up to an hour record continuously, also: Who is filming already for so long scenes, etc.)?
A negative point I have to agree, however: The battery is really very tight, although I can charge it relatively quickly in my car, but a spare battery must have still fro. One star deduction would be for me but too much.
