To install the SSD I've used the following instructions:
[...] Link has been removed, you can find the instructions in "iFixit" keyword "dual harddrive", depending on the iMac model.
What is needed:
- 1-2 cups (which are more than adequate in the bathroom for towels!)
- This "Spudger" tool of plastic (!). Tip: Ask times in your local iPhone doctor or Apple Reseller, if the do not have a worn left! Without this tool, it gets more complicated, perhaps even a child-tuts Plasik spoon
- Torx T10 screwdriver - a plug-in system with bits is unfortunately too thick for the low-lying screws!
- A very long tweezers (> 10 cm), or small hands and a lot of patience!
- Instead of a very thick paper clip (as specified in the tutorial) I have formed a wire hanger to a small hook, worked perfectly
With this tool, and some caution, the installation also creates any himself, a trained computer screwdriver takes about 30 min., Otherwise you should take 1-1,5h time. Most importantly, that you can not open the screen right at the far and possibly so. Cable breaks or contacts, but always a little bit goes higher and as indicated attracts the cable gradually. Fiddly wirds again only during assembly - then the cable must namely pure again.
The Fusion Drive I then configured using the following instructions:
[...] Link was removed, instructions can be found at "MacTechNews", called "Fusion Drive on older Macs set up"
Here it is a bit cumbersome solved with a second Mac - completely useless. Makes you just a Mac OS X Install USB flash drive (eg with liondiskmaker.com), starts from the Mac of this stick and gets there then on the terminal - which has all the necessary commands. Otherwise, the guide was good - also creates any themselves.
Now only the Time Machine back play backup or install Mac OS X again and that was it! Note that under certain circumstances a couple of hours / days, the system needs to learn which files on the SSD and which ones are on your hard drive.
My iMac 27 "(Late 2009) is once again quiet (has the hard drive really annoyed before ...) and rapidly. Crurial M4 256GB and 1TB hard drive which were combined to fusion Dive.
The investment of 100-150 worth enormous!
There are certainly more favorable or better processed external CD drive bays, but this met here fully its purpose, has all the right connections and is very easy to assemble (in CD drive, top flap).
