The Clayden is one of the standard books in the OC -I have used it to study for degree, like many others that I know who also studied chemistry. The book is written in a very easy-to-understand English and explains relationships in great detail, therefore the book is especially good if you want to acquire understanding - in contrast to the bone-dry Organikum. Allderdings this detail also comes at a price if you have already understood the issue and it only wants to learn, you sometimes wonder whether the authors can not just get to the point.
