Positives:
- The unit takes up very little space.
- The device settings are logically and it's easy and understandable set.
- It does what it should - play BluRay as well as DVDs in excellent quality from.
- Is reasonably priced and on the essentials what is really important is reduced.
- After unproblematic Firmware Update my TV (Toshiba 37 "XV635D) does the BR player also excellent with the REGZA-LINK TV remote control and there is detected directly.
Negatives:
- If a film, or a few episodes you look right after each of a series (eg Game of Thornes) long, crackling after about 2 to 2.5 hours of sound and or the sound comes either one or two seconds too late or too early the image. This can, however, easily fix, where one simply pulls the HDMI cable from the player and directly plugs in again. Then the sound works fine again and runs right back in sync with the picture.
The same can reproduce with copious forward or rewind, particularly at 6x or higher speed. But one but really need to seek much. Also the device does not like long pauses. Who will pause the movie for about 30 minutes or longer, has the further look directly above sound problem. But is fixed again in less than a minute.
- Even the BluRay player is relatively loud. Seats about 2.5m away and you can hear the play quite significantly. However, if you make each film a little louder or about 15 - has seen 20 minutes you realize not much of it. I also have the feeling that is quieter after about 25/30 the drive.
- Toshiba Service
About this nonexistent customer service I am angry now.
After having finally found on the website of Toshiba the current firmware (v0.96), together with instructions for it - and it was in good spirits - is only times nothing. According PDF guide is meant to run the .exe file and the folder thus created (formatted Fat16bit) to a disk save. The guide is even on dt.
Insofar as it sounds so good. However, the file read no more. Not even with "Run in administrator mode".
On my PC is next to Linux, Windows 7 Home 64 bits.
So I thought - a friendly email with detailed problem description to the Toshiba Service and send you will probably helped. Ne - nothing is.
Man is 08/15 addressed in the response (which is also quite long, 3 days) lies in coming. That's not bad, the Notice to contact me at the dealer XY in your area who repair the unit (!!!) to the final words that you would be able to have helped me have the whole set up the crown. That's really not okay or nice. This can be solved more elegant, especially after 3 days processing. Especially in such a big company is there more to it.
I know that this is common practice standard for all manufacturers. That will again be your downfall, if you ask me. If you should send back something to the customer to the "Service and Support area" rather do right close by pointing out that one should contact the local radio and television technician - with a silly firmware update. The same has curiously XV635D works very well with my old Toshiba - so it can be different.
Will still try the firmware - in hope of a quieter playback operation of DVD and BR discs as well as the elimination of Soundbugs - run in dedicated Admin Mode. The you have to but 7 Home has yet to unlock under Win because the normal user does not have full admin rights. Or I'm waiting for another firmware update that works then possibly better. If this works or something else I'm going to tell the tale. Maybe I'm just too stupid to bring only the update to your player.
