To send home internet signals from a box (Freebox and Livebox for example) the most practical method is to use the wifi. But it may be that the wifi signal does not reach all over her house. For these restive places in the CPL wifi devices (Powerline) are usually the solution.
The PLC adapters transmit the internet signal through the electrical installation of his son. It is thus not hindered by, for example, thick concrete walls. But this transmission may not work for all parts of the electrical installation. Thus, before the acquisition of these boxes Devolo, I tested an adapter On Networks (brand or sub-brand Netgear, as I just learned) in a garden shed where wifi is weakened: the CPL does not work, either because the circuit this discount is separated from the house, or, what is more likely, because the distance between the adapter and the delivery of the primary adapter (connected to the box ) is too large.
In general it takes at least two adapters: one connected to the output of the "box" to transmit the internet signal on electrical son and the other to receive this signal by a computer or a TV receiver for example.
For these adapters installation is very simple: after connecting Ethernet cables must be pressed in sequence on the safety buttons to complete the pairing. This operation is to be performed only once, the pairing being retained when you disconnect and then reconnect the adapter.
Of course a PLC network can be used to transmit data inside the house, regardless of the Internet, for example between 2 game consoles or between 2 computers. In this case the flow rate may be greater than that obtained with the wifi.
2. The boxes Devolo CPL.
This is a "starter kit" (Starter Kit) which simply means that this kit contains 2 adapters since I must necessarily at least 2 adapters to use such a system. Then we can get adapters Unit ("single kit").
Each "+ duo" adapter has two Ethernet ports. Thus one can connect two devices to each adapter, such as a computer and a printer. This is, for me, an advantage compared to adapters that I use so far, each has only one port.
But in my case, the most important benefit is the increase of reach. This can achieve 300m. As explained on the website Devolo this increase is due to technology "range +":
"While the current PLC technology uses only two of the three copper son of an electrical circuit (phase and neutral), range + uses in addition the ground wire (ground) and operates for the first time all the physical potential of the electric cable . The result is not only a much higher transmission performance, but also superior range. Even remote areas of the basement to the attic are now connected to broadband. "
In other words these Devolo adapters should resolve the problems I encounter in the most remote locations (the main adapter) from my house. But for now, I did not test this because I currently find myself in a holiday apartment in a dimension where the average distance problem does not arise. I will do this test in the course of next week and then will complete the comment.
Anyway I use these PLC adapters for 2 days and I did not detect any problem.
In conclusion I believe that these adapters are especially interesting for extended houses. For now I attribute this 4 star hoping to attribute 5 ("it's perfect") after checking the increase of reach.
August 29, 2014:
A test was performed that day in my garden shed where I was not getting signal with CPL boxes On-Networks. After disconnecting the wifi connection on the computer used for testing, so ensure that the internet connection comes only CPL box, and have linked to a video distributor, video reception was perfect. I, however, that the length of wire between the rebate and the router is likely much lower than the maximum of 300m announced by Devolo (it's not a huge property: the straight-line distance between the house and surrender is about twenty meters).
