First: If the monitor, I had ordered from Amazon itself, it is a device of Revision 1 (Rev 01). This is worth noting since the previous revision 0 apparently problems with Backlight bleeding had (uneven, "blotchy" illumination of the monitor that stands out in particular for black content).
So to calm the monitors now seem to be Rev 01 and for me looks really black to black out.
The package is quite bulky (comment of my roommate, "Did you two ordered ?!"), the packaging consists entirely of cardboard and cases made of plastic (one for the monitor as a whole, even specifically for the display), that is quite environmentally friendly.
Supply and equipment:
The monitor has two "full-blown" Display 1.2 ports and a mini-DisplayPort 1.2 (a total of three DP). You get to use selbiger a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable - so you can monitor so connect definitely with a graphics card, as long as it has a DisplayPort (either has the graphics card a mini-DP, then closes to the "big" DP to the monitor or the other way round).
In addition, it offers even an HDMI input, this however no cable included. In addition, you can monitor using the included USB 3.0 cable (incidentally, completely in black) to the PC and the monitor to use as a USB hub (I connected my laptop to the monitor and have my external hard drives and my external keyboard connected). Otherwise, there is a panel for the connections, if any of the monitor should look ugly from the back (do not worry - the monitor will be of the very nice). Incidentally, there is no external power supply (which was a knock-out criterion for me), but the power supply is integiert in the monitor. That is, it has only a power cord that must be plugged in and not a thick block of power supply at the bottom.
Installation:
The installation is easy: place the monitor face down on a flat surface, click in stand ready. CONNECTIONS Setup, graphics card / Laptop, correct input signal and transfer (mirrored, extended, resolution, Hz Number) choose and that's it.
Operation and Comfort:
The stand has all the features you could want from a stand: adjustable height. rotate, skew, Pivot - everything is possible. The stand also has a hole for the cable management - exemplary! Unfortunately, the monitor has no physical buttons, but the buttons used are okay on the sensitivity ago. The Standby LED lights the way discreetly know when switched off, it flashes slowly know (What I was very happy - I hate flash LEDs).
Picture:
When I connected the monitor and saw only mirrored on my laptop screen and the U2414H the image I once "WOAH" said. The colors are strong, the image of just about any angle view Stable and the narrow edge is phenomenal (above, right and left about 5 mm edge). Those looking for a multi-monitor setting with IPS Panels should access here without hesitation. Ghosting (streaking during fast movements with the mouse or the like) could and I can not recognize. Both imaging and gaming are not a problem - I do not notice anything of the "only" 60 Hz, which can spit out the monitor.
As criticisms me actually fall only two things:
1. I would have been very happy about it, if Dell could have put the successors of U2412M as 1980x1200 version on the market. If you look at but in the competition for, so you get a similar IPS panel until 100 extra charge (almost 50% of the U2414H!), So this desire is quite illusory.
2. I like touch buttons not very happy. There is simply no substitute for the feedback of a physical button.
However, both criticisms are really whining at the highest level and that's why I can not give this monitor without hesitation a perfect score.
