The processing of JBL-Pulse makes a very solid and high quality impression. The surface is slightly rubberized except pinhole behind which hide the LEDs. The size is slightly larger than a half-liter can of beer.
Loading the box via a Micro-USB port. A corresponding cable and a mains adapter sets JBL at could not be better. So the device can be used both on the network, as well as the notebook, etc. to be charged. The battery level is displayed on the device.
Once fully charged the battery lasts about 10 hours but only without illumination. With illumination, the working life halved to still decent 5 hours.
With the iPhone through the pairing process immediately and without any problems. To control the light show and a free app will be offered. Creating playlists in the app is a bit more complicated than in the iPod app, especially when selecting by genre. Caution: In the iTunes store, there are 2 apps called Music Flow. Choose the one with the orange logo, the other is an obsolete predecessor. Need but not doing it the app really, the box can be also selected fine at the top. Here you can choose which color and intensity of illumination you want, or it also turns it off entirely.
Non-Bluetooth devices, such as older MP3 players can also be connected via a phone cable. A corresponding copy is however not provided.
The sound of these little boxes is fairly decent, but not outstanding. Sound is of course highly subjective. I am not one of the hi-fi freaks who hear a difference between a CD and an MP3 file, but rather to the music-by-way-listeners.
To my mind, the box is easily height-heavy. Basses come a little weak, therefore. The sound is still good, but not very good. From the volume ago you can with those boxes loosely fill a medium sized room of 30m² the party can therefore begin.
The hit is of course the illumination. Here the spirits are divorced: the one consider it superfluous gimmick, others will find it great. I belong clearly to the second group, while my better half, the device compares more with insect killer.
The colors of the lights can be adjusted, also colorful is possible, and the Illumination mE really atmospheric.
Conclusion:
A welcome change in the supply of Bluetooth speakers. Sonically not outstanding, but good and especially beautiful designed and beautifully illuminated. Who it has nothing left, should be looking for a cheaper alternative unlit, for all others can be found here a great gadget.
