The housing feels valuable and is well made. The difference between the magnesium alloy on the front and top and good plastic on the back, I feel very good on the basis of different heat / cool the material. One for me new and pleasant experience.
The 5N feels good in my hand. It's a blessing for me, just about 500 grams to take place more than 900 grams (or even more in specific lenses from Canon and Nikon).
The lens I have reviewed separately.
The attached Flash fulfilled after mounting the function of the built-in body usually flashes. For me it remains on it, especially since the weight is barely noticeable. Unfortunately, it can not be worked out so far upwards that a bounce is possible. The compatible compact flash HVL-F20S might be helpful. As far as the lightning is often not as good a result as with DSLR with good external flash.
A built-in viewfinder may not produce the 5N. I knew that beforehand. In bright sunshine, I use the left hand to shade to predict the image on the display so. This is a temporary solution. Perhaps the purchase of the optional viewfinder is required.
Contrary to expectations, I get along very well with the operation by menu control via the touchscreen. The buttons and rotary wheels of Canon and Nikon I do not miss. The soft keys can be assigned with functions mentioned and that really facilitates the settings very, even if, like me, often photographed M / Manual mode. It just requires some concentration.
After a short training period I manage images that are just as good as with the 40D or D90.
I want to especially point out the way to get after registering with Sony to extend the 1-year warranty for another year. As far as I know this does not provide the "big ones" Nikon and Canon.
For me it is no matter of faith: the NEX-5N can replace a DSLR or is it? In my opinion it is definitely a significant competitor with all the benefits such as weight and size. For professionals who need to be prepared for any situation and need a correspondingly high-quality equipment, the 5N is not questioned. For people who want to achieve very good results without spending a lot of money and the relative with age like me are thankful for less weight, is the 'Small' highly recommended. Incidentally, the 5N cost about 250 more than, say, the Canon G12 or Nikon P 7100 (compact cameras with very small sensor), where I but the lens can not change. I intend soon to try an old Canon FD telephoto lens with an adapter.
Conclusion: The NEX-5N with this kit lens, I recommend without any ifs and buts. I think the best camera for all, there is not anyway!
