I purchased a copy with Canon connection. Sorry, no image was sharp with autofocus practical, whether at close range or at infinity. The lens had a massive front Focus of about 3 cm with a 70 cm distant object, causing significant blur 1.4 in shallow depth of field at f. Manually focused images were better, but I did not buy the lens. I have in the shop (it was not on Amazon purchases) even tested three copies: one also had a significant fehlfokus, the next was useful, but not at the expected level (a less critical customer would possibly be satisfied, but then paid much too much for average performance), only the fourth lens was impeccable.
Fehlfokussierede lenses from Sigma not got a rare slip-ups. At this price you could expect a thorough final inspection. Sigma takes, according to my dealer but no final inspections before. I shoot with several Canon SLRs and lenses for over 15 years. I can replace the Canon lenses without problems between the housings. I use both digital and slide film today. The statement sigmoid colon that you just need to adjust such fast lenses individually on a case, I would refer to the realm of myths. In an original Canon me is never happened.
Granted, a precisely-aligned copy is a top objective. It is sharper at maximum aperture than the Canon 50mm 1.4. The combination of the crisp, high-contrast reproduction and a wonderfully soft and calm blur area at maximum aperture is the great strength of the sigmoid colon. Who wants to make creative with selective focus is an interesting lens here. Whoever "just" a fast standard lens investigated is better off with the Canon 1,4er well. Light dimmed disappear sharpness benefits of Sigma's quickly gone.
The Sigma is compared to Canon 1,4er significantly more expensive, harder (with about 500 g no "take-along" objective more) and has a 77mm front thread, leading to costly filter means. Poorer resale value you have to fear the Sigma also. The acquisition should be carefully considered.
So a quality diversification is simply not sustainable for the purchase by mail order. I have my copy in a shop in Zweibrückenstr. bought in Munich and tested. Also in the exemplary return service Amazon can expect no, four copies (plus possibly the original Canon as a reference) to be send to. My first was the dealer with the inscription provided "Extreme Focus Front" and put aside the words "we are preparing eh just a great return on Sigma ago".
Conclusion: Sigma has managed an excellent optical design, the more it is a pity that the purchase is a lottery game.
