I informed myself before, and it just seemed to be a suitable product, which would have replaced the unpretentious Intel stock.
My processor is a Core 2 Quad Q6600 clocked at 2.4GHz (max frequency without overclock) in socket 775, and it seemed cooler, according to different websites and different consumer reviews, adequately replace the Intel stock on such processors.
In fact, this is not the case at all. I had to reduce to a minimum (1.6GHz) frequency of my processor to reach 50 degrees at rest. Under load, the processor quickly climbs to 75 degrees, and before reaching the 80 degrees of alarm, eventually crash my PC. Also note that I set in the bios that the cooler still rotates at its maximum speed (2200 rpm vicinity). Certainly, even at this speed and with the open box, it makes almost no noise, but clearly not enough to cool a Core 2 Quad at rest, much less supported.
I would know the next time, even pay a bit more expensive, I would take at least a cooler filled to its function, which is absolutely not the case of this Arctic Alpine.
If you intend to replace the stock with a processor a bit older than recent I3, I5 and I7, prefer instead Cooler Master TX3 Evo. More expensive, yes (and again, not to excessive costs), but that does not disappoint.
