Because Samsung uses for controlling the new MV800 on a touch screen, which are usually found in more tablets and smartphones in particular. Thus, the target group is quickly established: An easy-to-use camera that makes relatively good pictures and you can also always there. So almost back a smartphone?

Service:
The supposed advantage touch display but it is implemented properly, because already some camcorder set to an operation via touch and the implementation is rather bad. Often enough, the new technology is mixed with old menu structures and so are often much too small icons to score points compared to a traditional operating concept with buttons and dials on anyway a tiny display.
Samsung has made here happy meadow its know-how from the smartphone market incorporated - and plenty of it! The menu structure is that of an Android smartphone quite similar and is based on very short distances. With a 'mop' to the left or right can be quickly navigate through the photo-features that are launched as an app on your phone simply by tapping on the main menu. The main menu can be explained by the "Home" button, a call by only five native buttons / switches on the MV800, quickly.
Depending on the function, the user has been started more or less options. Whether selecting a frame, effect or limited in Program mode settings on the basic photo functions. This reflects the strong targeting, because semiautomatic or fully manual modes, there are not at the Samsung MV800.

Image Quality:
Despite all the new operating concepts each projection is worthless if because the basic functions of a camera are not implemented convincing. As already touched on the Samsung has not much manual control over the final image, only the absolute basic functions such as over / under exposure (+ - 2 eV), the autofocus or the white balance can be corrected.
The quality of images is strongly dependent on the subject. Due to the high pixel count, a lot more of the high pixel density, the MV800 problems in the dark (strong noise, little details because of the noise filter) as well as in situations with high contrast (low dynamic range, 'blown-out' lights), ie for example in backlit situations ,
, If it is paid to a good illumination, the small Samsung, however, can produce amazingly detailed images. Particularly the macro and portrait area has impressed us here, even though the MV800 to a somewhat strong sharpening edges to contrast tends (eg hair).

Video mode:
More or less of course comes the Samsung MV800 therefore with an HD video mode. As usual, however, still not in full HD resolution, but only in the normal HD (720p). Unfortunately, not even the native PAL refresh rate supported by 25 frames / second but only 30 frames / second.
In spite of all is the image quality is fine, if not outstanding good. A big negative point is unfortunately the sound quality. The camera tends especially in noisy environments to the sound completely distorting. This makes the Samsung MV800 unfortunately unsuitable for a video recording of the next concert, a shame.

Buy recommendation:
Advantages and disadvantages are even more closely together. For, as says an old saying: One man's meat is another man's poison. So some people may feel the touch display and the few settings very well. For more ambitious experiments, that is, not least, (semi-) manual controls, but has the small Samsung MV800 too little depth.
As a small "Easy-to-use" Party and the way camera well suited, but otherwise not really recommendable. And the price is right for what is offered!
