With a lever you can adjust the friction, so the ease with which the ball head can be rotated.
With the other wheel can lock it in any position.
The quick release plate is secured by two levers which you have to operate both.
This is reassuring, because thanks to the ball joint can be the camera so bring comfortable for example in a portrait position.
In order for the camera lens and along with quick release plate does not fall victim to gravity, I'm happy about the double security. That this is not obvious, you can see many more inexpensive tripods, which often only have a lever to secure the quick release plate.
To record video, the ball head is also suitable; I find the movement very well.
However, there are models that run even more fluid and are better suited for panning.
But since I only photos and (usually) do not have videos, the mobility of the ball head was soft enough for me.
The stability is Manfrotto typically very good.
I use the ball head with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, and (mostly) the 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS II USM.
