I have inherited slides partially out of the 60s, kids pictures, etc., the slides are good anyway not much and something for the converter is well suited. Since I broke my leg I have a lot of time for the long-delayed work.
I have taken no stand but take the camera in hand. The light source is a flash unleashed. The best thing is to insert the slide, set against a window in which the sun is shining and as the orientation of the slide set, then set on the flash and shoot. When triggered, the converter has the autofocus may be detained there turns still on the lens.
The whole thing is very fast, a quick glance at the display after each image is recommended because the image can be made wrong times but, - as bright my viewfinder is not.
