The Stereo digital radio "DAB 14" Dual is both DAB + and FM band - is so at home in two worlds and thus future-proof. Its lightweight design makes it suitable for both stationary and as well as for mobile use.
The following advantages I find in addition particularly noteworthy:
+ Stylish and modern design - unfortunately only with plastic housing.
+ Intuitive operation. A printed manual is for the "Emergency" at.
+ Good stereo sound - but only when reception is good. In DAB + coverage in rural areas is not quite optimal. The FM sound with RDS station identification is excellent.
+ 5 station dual input keys.
+ Signal strength indication (1 to 5 bars).
+ Powered via mains adapter or 4 AA batteries. For battery operation especially important: The brightness of the display can be dimmed automatically.
+ Headphone port.
But there are also disadvantages:
- If the rod antenna is fully extended and is turned too far to the rear, the machine threatens to overturn. It does not matter if batteries are installed or not. Here the optical design was probably unfortunately more important than stability - a pity.
- The build quality of the device is very good, but the keys have different amounts of game, so they do not all lie on a line visually.
- In operation, the 4 alkaline batteries unfortunately hold by only about 4 to 5 hours. To use batteries writes the manufacturer "The device is not working well with 1.2V battery.", Without further elaborating on the restrictions. On demand one has informed me that high-quality batteries usually do not cause problems, because they have much lower voltage differences as cheap batteries. I can confirm: With my Eneloop batteries (eg 4 x Sanyo Eneloop AA battery - NEWEST VERSION HR 3UTGA - 50% more LIFE - up to 1500 charging cycles - in the original [energy inside] battery box) the Radio is working properly ,
Finally, a note which may be of interest to one or the other:
In the manual standby function is described and mentioned in the product description an "alert". These do not exist, at least for my device and an inquiry to the dual customer revealed that it is a mistake in the description in both cases. A standby and alarm function does not exist unfortunately.
Conclusion:
The Digital Radio DAB 14 is - in spite of the weaknesses described - a recommended design stereo radio with digital option for the future and many uses. I have, for example, in the kitchen in use and am very satisfied. Due to the short battery life, but lends itself to more of the network operation and an occasional operation with batteries.
