Dignified recording

Carlo Broschi called Farinelli was probably the greatest singers of his time, and so it is appropriate that not just anybody, but the technically extremely savvy mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux tries to singing arias from him. Her timbre is probably not so dolce how Farinelli may have been, but something bitter, but the recording is a complete success.
With great joy we hear that the arias on offer here, although some highly virtuosic, but also highly musical. In addition, the most important for the singer composers are represented with arias.
In particular compositions by Nicola Porpora, who was Farinelli's singing teacher and we therefore owe him ultimately, the technical difficulties are a vital and expressive part of the compositions. The style is virtuosic, but at the same time intensely emotional, so that the arias are a pure musical pleasure. To hear with what mobility Genaux flies eg through the coloratura in Dall'amor, is wonderful and pure pleasure. The singer decorated stylishly and according to their abilities plenty - how quickly and exactly to Genaux can sing can be almost endless fioriture, is always admirable (what lungs has this woman!).
In Giacomelli Quell'usignolo enjoy the flawless precision trill, the large range (a very nice, full but not heavy low register), but especially the peppy musical, singing rousing manner of Vivica Genaux. You have to in this singer listen closely to detect any sounds and subtleties - wonderful!
Farinelli's brother Riccardo Broschi was a very mediocre composer, but his aria Ombra Fedele is beautiful and poignant and integrated pathos and complex coloratura in successful manner. Nice so that it is included on the recording. Genaux 'aptitude for rapid coloratura accordingly contains the CD predominantly fast and vocally virtuosic music, and less slow tragic arias; it is hoped to experience in the future once those page of the famous singer.
Why does the recording and instrumental music by Galuppi, not quite open up to me; more song I would have preferred, but at 70 minutes it still remains enough time.
This recording is already a decade old, but since then no one else has dared to CD to the repertoire Farinelli - with good reason. Genaux is excellent, and this CD was another milestone in the redevelopment of Kastratenrepertoires.
