There was the time backpacker, considered an indispensable bible of the trip, but I tend to think it is long gone. My last two experiences of these guides was fairly disappointing first Sicily and London. Both guides have common defects which appear to me more and more troublesome. It is primarily a question of mindset: happy moralizing, introductions plant decor; we advise you what others recommend and vice versa, we recommend excursions and shopping / restaurant behind the fagots, etc. The problem may be due to update the guide regularly enough, but delightful places recommended by the editors are often disappointing, have not aged, when they are not exactly overwhelmed by the readers of Backpacker themselves in trouble exoticism and find themselves in a trap, surrounded by compatriots! For example, to name one, Richoux, ultra tearoom recommended by the guide, we boasts the fabulous scones, proves serve any tea, scones worthy of those we buy at Marks Spencer and under plastic in a setting with little interest and very average service. Of course, it would have been dishonorable mention Harrods Georgian Restaurant, a symbol of the ultra liberalism and the consumer society, but, conversely addresses too often proposed by this Backpacker, serves afternoon tea of outstanding quality, warm scones from the oven, gently perfumed exceptional tea, sandwiches and pastry trays all the more remarkable as each other ... It's touristy, yes, so anti-backpacker, but sometimes, sound values are better than the pseudo address ...
