The new CD of Maybebop is - once again - a listening experience. What the four alone can do with their voices, making a simple speechless! The Vocal Percussion is so sophisticated that it really thinks there should be tools in the game - but they are not what I could convince myself stayed at several concerts. For me Maybebop are currently simply the best that there is in the a cappella genre. Of the Wise Guys, with which they are so often compared, distinguishes the greater diversity of the repertoire in my eyes. Even on this album, and more: whether classical (unbelievably good: the sung version of Goethe's "Erl King" - even if you have the experience actually live), rapped (Next time), whether playfully popular (Small gray moth, Love Letter), jazzy (ride), mercilessly oblique funny (Eat more insects) or pop (What about love) - it is really everything. It's really music at the highest level and the CD is technically brilliant. So why only four stars out of five? I must say that I, if I had met Maybebop only with this album, probably definitely five stars would be awarded. Now I know Maybebop but for some time and they appreciate certain qualities that - at least in my opinion - come a little short on this album. The typical abysmal, quirky humor, the example in songs like "Panzer Fahrn", "waste separation at breakfast", "holiday in South Africa", "It is I" or "Kacktus" itself - just to name a few - shows come here only in some songs ("Eat more insects", "ride") to express. And songs like "All in the genes", "ideal", but especially "What about the love" sound to me too much in the direction of pop - others may perhaps just like that, but for me is not the Maybebop. I think you can clearly see that these songs are not from Oliver Gies, and I hope that this is not the direction that intends Maybebop pursue future. My conclusion: Maybebop are brilliant musicians and entertainers and have a listenable, diverse CD produced. The previous albums "Finally authentic" and "Extremely close to it" definitely deserve five stars (or more, if that were possible!). If you reflect on these qualities and can not be the new label presses too much in one direction, there's next time perhaps again five star ...
