The story has all the characters you would expect in a Faerie Tale: faeries, goblins, dragons, elves, ogres, etc. It therefore stars the typical hero: a small boy, with no abilities in Particular, unless you count "being more troublesome than his two siblings "as to ability. After reading the Entire five books, I must say I would have expected better of seeking highly Praised authors as Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. In my opinion, the characters remain shallow; the story fails to ever truly catch the reader.
Whatever the story's short comings may be, the books' binding, Their arrangement and the drawings inside make up for it. A bitter aftertaste remains, HOWEVER; One sometimes thinks, thesis books were written for commerce rather than out of passion for the thing itself.
All in all: the books qualify as light bed-time reading. If one does not expect them to be great, one might even enjoy them!
