After her highly acclaimed debut "Infest" and the singles "Last Resort", "Broken Home" and "Between Angels & Insects" Papa Roach had almost separated, the chemistry simply no longer true. The recordings for "Lovehatetragedy" brought the band back together. Even on first hearing it is clear that the band has changed both in content and music since "Infest". The lyrics deal this time mainly of relationship frustration ("Decompression Period", "She Loves Me Not", "Time and Time Again"). Other issues such as suicide, capital punishment or broken childhood has songwriter Jacoby Shaddix, unlike on "Infest", aside left. Overall, I find the lyrics on the previous album, but more sophisticated and varied. Musically, "Lovehatetragedy" the debut album "Infest" quite similar. Harte, simple guitar rhythms, very serious and gloomy, just the typical Papa Roach - Sound. Only a few titles like the fast "M-80" or "Decompression Period" (almost a ballad) stand out. "Decompression Period" and "Born With Nothing" are certainly among the best of what the band has produced so far. Fans of "Infest" will certainly not be disappointed. Additional mention deserves the CD-ROM Part of the CD: The live video of "Between Angels & Insects" and "Last Resort" are top notch. This is something I want to see more often. CONCLUSIONS: Not quite as consistent as its predecessor, but certainly again a credible and intelligent album. Fans should access.
