Todd here develops a reflection on the crisis of democracy that we are going through and it does it in the light of an anthropologist's point of view. It uses its work on family systems (egalitarian, communal nuclear fammille etc ...) and I must admit that this is a way to study the original and relevant thing. It reads well and is a good starting point for someone who I think would be interested in politics but would miss critical, summarizing the book pretty well the situation, the author is subjective it is true but this is not an evil. I would have only two criticisms: -l'antisarkozisme, wrote in 2008 that redundant antisarkozisme staking the book becomes a little run in 2015. -the conclusion the conclusion of Todd is incredibly inconsistent. Todd concluded "protectionism last chance of European democracy" p.289 In the same chapter he says that "the European institutions are little more than a vast fuel machine Panglossian the doctrine of free trade" But p.291 by Todd should make the European protectionism, so reform the EU (political form thus created would be a new kind, involving complex Institutional changes p.298), but down there or hurts is that Todd here the typical attitude of the pro-European who wants to sell us the usual myth of the "other Europe". Excluding the EU is irrevocable, because of the divergent interests of the countries that compose and Article 48 of the TEU, to change the European treaties, imposes for unanimity of member states. Todd said himself p.295 "In England, free trade is one component, and not least, of national identity", which means that it starts to Emble very very bad for "the Another europe ", he explains himself that one of its members already significant not want his European protectionism. I found the same very naive conclusion "Silver debt bank" Hollebecq. In short, Europeanism is a true doctrine and even the most critical people never want to look at reality.
Conclusion a very interesting book based on the perspective of the anthropologist, very disappointing conclusion to the sauce of the "other Europe" who lost a star.
