Aesthetically this book is very beautiful and very illustrated, sometimes involving the aesthetic value of the body of the author. Some recipes also.
He who has power bases will not learn much in this book. It deals with many subjects (meat, slaughter, fish, bees, fruit and vegetables, plastic etc) without deepening. This book therefore gives a good overall view of food. Many simple explanation of why a particular food is good for the body and can cause an awareness of the consequences of mass production.
But here are the limits of this book. Is it deliberate? I do not know. I would have liked a more political book, explaining in a few pages what denounces this book is the cause of the consumer society or the markets extend to the whole world because we are in a global sense, production therefore needs to be gigantic. It is said but that's it.
The consumer society is the result of globalism or the capitalist system is pushed to the extreme. The author says that it is better for our health to shop in markets and from local producers. But he said nothing absolutely nothing on the transatlantic treaty that will be signed in 2015 and which will give the right to firms like Monsanto to impose GMOs on our plates. Yes globalization is dominated by multinationals and finance who worship free trade and the removal of borders since the border is a protection against the violence of globalization.
