As a techie myself, of course, interested in the E-Ink display technology with its paper effect (the brighter the better).
Similarly, the prospect of digital documents available to read like a book without having to print them out before.
For me, here are especially the many, present in PDF documents as user manuals,
scientific publications and other freely available literature.
DRM-protected books, however, are of no interest to me with the current business models.
A DRM-protected book is tied to my reader, I can not sell, do not lend
and to the same pay as for the printed output. Sorry, but that's totally unacceptable.
So awesome and just the Whispernet concept of the Kindle 2 is also, it fails on the current business model
and therefore is currently for me not interesting.
But back to the topic. When comparing the various currently available eBook reader, the choice fell quickly
on the Sony PR 505th
Benefits:
- Expandable memory
- Top display with best sharpness and contrast values
- Quality workmanship (materials, clearances, surface feel, all school grades 1 to 1+)
- Compact
- Usefully supplied with removable leather cover
- Charging via USB
- Quick navigation with line keys (which also act as numeric keypad)
- Supports many different document formats
- In Germany in stock with German Warranty
A disadvantage is the slightly slower processor, which is reflected by the slower paging,
and the lack of search function. In normal reading of books and texts, this is not tragic.
A pity that such a good reaction as that of the PR 505 is not permanent.
In the US, the PR 505 is no longer available. The successor models
either a smaller display (PR 300) or a display with touchscreen conditional poorer contrast (PR 600).
