Antonio Vivaldi was probably a virtuoso violinist, and he wrote for his instrument became legendary. But besides the famous "Four Seasons", his oboe concertos offer themselves as beautiful moments of music. This disc presents these 8 oboe concertos in an already old version, now classic, that of Pierre Pierlot with I Solisti Veneti directed by Claudio Scimone. Although it is contemporary of Tomaso Albinoni, Vivaldi does not develop unless a radically different style of its own. The strings quiver and recognize without hesitation. The orchestration is probably less complex than Albinoni, but there is a dynamism here, inimitable dance. The oboe part is also her virtuoso and sings beautifully (the Larghetto of the Concerto Rv447 worth a visit!). We also appreciate the concise pieces rarely speak very much (almost always less than 3 minutes per move), sometimes surprising (the Rv456 concerto opens with the slow movement). It is always a stylish music and vision of Claudio Scimone remains a tasteful classicism. Here is a very nice record, that is listened to with renewed pleasure.
