Here's my plus / minus list:
Plus:
* Hybrid Focus convinced me totally, with photos and videos
* 6 frames per second is enough for me, I'm not a sports photographer
* The display satisfies my needs in any case, the brightness can be increased yet even in strong sunshine; I could not detect any disturbing streaks on the display.
* The camera software (menu) is nicely reactive (responsive), keystroke results in immediate appropriate action (which I have in one of the first NEX quite different in mind)
* Great size for the offered technology and quality, fits well in a pocket (with the standard lens)
* Very good image quality, with photos and videos
* Sony now cooperates with Phase One and there is a free Express version of Capture One which supports (for Sony), the Sony Alpha 5100. Even lens distortion of the kit lens can be compensated with this RAW Converter. Great Raw Converter.
* I extend the existing buttons, although I always a friend to the direct selection of the recording mode was (PASM).
Neutral:
* Camera tends in automatic mode in poor lighting conditions the same time to put on ISO 3200, but then what produces noisy images. With manual intervention but one can very well take pictures with ISO 400, with correspondingly longer exposure.
* The flash is okay. Hot shoe, there's no. External flash can also be driven as far as I know.
* The display can be folded 180 ° upward (for Selfies who's would be) but not down. Overhead photograph is therefore not easier.
* The audio level for video recordings can not be regulated. But in my previous recordings, has not yet been necessary.
* Sensor Due loses this camera immediately the compactness factor, if, for example installing a telephoto lens. Four / Thirds cameras are relatively compact even with telephoto lens yet.
* WiFi and NFC I've tried too little, because it is not a very relevant feature for me.
* I catch myself repeatedly while the left camera microphone with the left index finger to cover and the AF illuminator I feel like with the right index finger to. But the camera can also hold other well, so nothing is hidden :)
Negative
* I feel compelled to shoot in RAW format, what I feel somewhat cumbersome. I've always been very happy with the JPG output my Olympus E-PL2. The file size of JPG pictures of the Sony is in most cases even less than the photos of Olympus, although Sony has 24M pixels while the Olympus "only" 12M pixels photos absorbs. That can not work without loss. If I convert RAW files to JPG, these have partially still up to 18MB, while the JPGs are great straight from the camera rarely more than 8MB. The noise reduction of the camera I find too much of a good thing. Higher ISO values seems "more is better" to be the motto. For high ISO values, the noise reduction can also be set to "low" (will probably "low" in the German menu hot) are set. But this attitude has not convinced me (yet). I would like to see a Super Fine setting for JPG compression and a bit more control over the noise reduction.
* In "Play" mode (the mode in which you can look at his pictures on the camera) it takes about 2 seconds until the enlarged image area charged when you zoom in a photo. This feels arg long. However, further zooming and image area is then move back on track.
Obviously for me clearly outweigh the advantages over the disadvantages, therefore, I can recommend the camera definitely, if you're looking for a camera with compact dimensions with excellent image quality.
