Pripyat is that city in the immediate vicinity of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which once had 50,000 inhabitants and in April 1986 was a ghost town for all times due to the 'worst case scenario'.
THE GHOSTS of Pripyat is the first solo album by Steve Rothery. It contains seven instrumental numbers between five and a half and eleven and a half minutes long. Although he has the support of Steve Hackett (ex Genesis), one of his great idols secured two of the pieces, this album sounds in large parts neither Genesis nor by their former Marillion epigones.
Rothery outs himself here as a friend of epic, melodic sounds at the intersection of art rock, blues-rock and a little hard rock. Those who love Pink Floyd, Camel, Deep Purple and maybe the Dire Straits in their 'progressive' phase (LOVE OVER GOLD), which undoubtedly will also like this album, which is still better with each listening session. By the way, are also Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield) in the wonderful Long Track "Old Man of the Sea" the honor.
In short: an absolute buy recommendation!
