As anonymous but very astute comment that is alone in denouncing the weaknesses of this interpretation, my review will go in the same direction. Christophe Rousset sometimes imposes too fast tempi that weaken the brightness of the work. Ornamentation borrowed from plainchant are not suitable for these resolutely baroque works. We are in the eighteenth century, not the Middle Ages. In his defense, Andreas Scholl is always excellent even though it does not have the most beautiful voice. His prodigious technique blurs the imperfections of his stamp. Barbara Bonney is disappointing and often misses the interiority of the partition. It also notes some tensions on the high laryngeal attacks that spoil the fun. We knew as the much better aspect.
Finally, choose the version James Bowman / Christopher Hogwood by Emma Kirkby, who although old, is the only one that will make you float with the angels.
