Paul Simons songs are all distinguished by a solid musical backbone. They require almost to be played live. Simon is someone who needs the closeness to the audience. His live versions appear to lengths more present than the studio versions. I can best imagine him as he has even started: as a busker. So should sound his songs.
With "Live Rhymin '" Paul Simon has presented an album that can be heard through very well and quickly became my favorite CDs. The song selection includes both songs from their time together with Art Garfunkel as "Homeward Bound", "The Sound of Silence" or "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as well as those of his repertoire after the separation of the brilliant duo as "Duncan" or "Mother And Child Reunion ". Especially outstanding are in my opinion, "El Condor Pasa" with the Peruvian Formation 'Urubamba' and the gospel song "Jesus Is The Answer" the 'Jessy Dixon Group', my favorites on this album (although Paul Simon not sing along here) ,
A musician could wish to be accompanied by such a capable sound engineers, as here - already in 1973/74 - were at work. The entire recording featuring a rather unusual in the international music presence. The very atmospheric intensity of these photographs was produced even more clearly by means of a thorough remastering contrast to conventional present publications.
This CD shows that Paul Simon is one of the biggest American pop musician without Art Garfunkel. And who has heard this CD attentive, the can of the subsequent success of "Graceland" probably come as no surprise.
