Maud, 82, impairment of Alzheimer's disease, lives in his house, helped by her daughter Helen and her little papers on which she wrote what should not be forgotten. She is convinced that her best friend Elizabeth disappeared and this obsession finally mix with his memories of youth, in particular the disappearance of her older sister Sukey in 1948 in circumstances that have never been clarified. She decides to conduct the investigation, among oversights increasingly frequent. It is then immersed in the intricacies of memory, mixed with the present, without ever leaving the spirit of Maud, which is a real tour de force on the part of the author. We understand as and as Maud's youthful memories are revealed why certain objects have become an obsession in the minds of that messy. The construction of the story is in this respect very precise and perfectly controlled. The suspense is beautifully conducted jusquaux last chapters, which release the reader gradually the anguish in which is the main character. At once funny, tragic, endearing and nostalgic, this novel is brilliant, beautifully written and dune building exemplary.
