Pros:
- Good weight for size
- Backlit keypad with clear pressure point. Compared to my personal Acer 7750G-disaster a real "dream fingers" (which I can only speak for myself of course)
- Contrary to the information in the product data sheet, it has Gigabit Lan
- The "F-keys" are with their own special functions assigned (soft and loud, sound on / off, etc; nevertheless function the classic Windows-codes such as "Alt + F4" without pressing the "FN" key
- For my perception (which for me is not an objective Punk) very quiet. The fan runs seltenst (my reference is an Acer 7750G, in which the fan is almost always running). Under full load of course often heard, depends on the user behavior, but never uncomfortably loud
- Battery life: I have not yet reached 10 hours, but were 7 hours at me already there. Here, however, many energy-saving options must be chosen (eg energy-saving mode with the included Energy Manager, display dark etc.). In everyday average I get on good 5-6 hours (with external appointments do I disable the WiFi, which also saves energy)
- The processing is wertig for me. The display hinge makes me a good and very solid impression, the body is rigid. On the surfaces there are fingerprints, which can however be easily removed.
- Power Supply: A pleasantly stable plug. Not such a shaky Rundpolstecker but a stable, reminiscent of a USB connector.
- The housing can be easily opened for maintenance or cleaning purposes. While there are open 12 screws, but it is then also the entire floor covering easy to remove (the cover is clipped on the left and right, the connection can, however, open with little effort; you do not have the impression that breaking anything). From there you have access to the RAM, the HDD and the wireless card (more on that later). Moreover, as the notebook is therefore easy and thorough cleaning (eg for dust removal).
Cons:
- Lenovo's "white list policy": Built-Fi card (7260 N) Intel does not provide 300 Mbit, but dominated BT, but as a whole is too unstable and too lame to me simply. Whoever wants to simply replace the card, will -if not ANNOUNCE experience a nasty surprise. Lenovo has deposited in the BIOS a whitelist for "allowable" WLAN cards that are limited to three pieces (to be taken from the hardware maintanace Manual available through Lenovo, one builds another card, you get the error "1802" and the notebook does not start and you will be asked to turn off. background is probably a US licensing and safety story that is related to the certification of wireless modules and their transmission power). A simple exchange is thereby excluded and limited to "exotic models". I have now ordered over my e-Bay a "BroadCom BCM943228HMB BCM43228 Half Mini PCIe WLAN wireless BT Bluetooth card". This will fit according to my research regarding the FRU and the whitelist: if it works, I can only say if the map from Hong Kong is there. The conversion (see above) uncomplicated. It should also give BIOS hacks but I will not go into this venture personally.
Neutral:
- The delivered image of Windows 8 is a bit dated. After initial start-up 81 updates were required. After that fell the update to 8.1. and further updates on.
- The touch display is not essential for me and no purchase decision, but is more realistic, what the developers of Microsoft with respect to the new interface of Windows 8 meant thereby. Many of the apps can be described by the touch operation actually intuitively (as opposed to mouse operation).
Other:
I do not regret the purchase, on the contrary. The wireless card is not perfect, but is quite usable. Whether the exchange will work seen. To speed the SSD I can not make a technically competent statements. For me it is fast enough. For me it is a notebook that is chic to look at, brings a lot of power and has a proven in everyday work more.
Conclusion:
I am excited about this notebook. Although it has some shortcomings with regard to the interchangeability of the WLAN module, convince me the build quality, endurance and performance. I've decided, is to procure me both for the private as well as for professional use.
Update as of 04/05/2014:
1. The above-mentioned wireless card arrived in the meantime, has also been tested, but not found by me for good. The connection quality was still unstable, the rate usually lower than that of factory fitted.
2. Another Energy saving tip: I have turned off the File Idizierungsdienst with me. That makes me sure that the notebook is running much cooler (with switched service a IDLE of about 38 ° C, turned about 32 ° C). Thanks to the SSD I feel no "power loss".
