Without being able to confirm that the translation respects relatively these elements, we must admit it is beautiful! The frustration in this book is not available (usually) that quotes from Confucius, without staging, without narrative. It is a conglomeration of words of wisdom, some obscure. It is an accumulation that crushes us a little. There is no time to pause to digest. Apart from a few chapters, this book can not easily be read in one go, and that is unfortunate, as it is interesting and rich!
I quote some excerpts:
- Page 39: "The Master said, what troubles me is the idea of not being able to grow enough virtue, or deepen what I learned, nor follow the dictates of justice nor correct my imperfections. "
- Page 48: "The Master said: look, it's like chasing what escapes us, while fearing to lose what we already have."
- Page 82: "The Master said, when the government principles, talk right and act right When the government is unprincipled, act right, but speak cautiously.."
- Page 82: "The Master said, is necessarily virtuous eloquent, eloquent is not necessarily virtuous Voucher is necessarily good; the good is not necessarily good.."
- Page 102: "The Master said, only the supremely intelligent people and supremely stupid people do not change."
I hope these quotes will give you the desire to discover this beautiful mine of wisdom and deep!
